July 25th, 2007
Sony releases to several news publications that their sales for the Playstation 3 have increased 135%. This they state is due to drop in price they started two weeks ago on July 9th. Sony dropped the price from $599 to $499 for the 60 GB PS3. Before this drop in price, Microsoft's X-box and Nintendo's Wii were definetely outshining the Sony competition. Sony declares that their hardware sales are up 161%, software is up 15%, and the peripherals of the system are up 60%. Sony expects that this continued price decrease and the heavy software line-up they are preparing to release in the next couple months will continue this trend of upward sales. They are set to release the highly publicized "Lair" and "Warhawk" games next month, as well as many other exclusive for playstation games in the fall. Sony is also set to release the 80 GB PS3 next month as well. Yet, some buyers are still staying away from the Playstation 3. There are rumors that the newly reduced price will only exist until Sony sells out the 60 GB PS3 stock. Also, the 80 GB PS3 is said not to have the PS2 chip, detremental to the long running sony fans. Still, Playstation 2 is still near the top of the list in sales for game consoles. We'll see in the coming months what Sony's software and equipment really add up to. | ||||||||||||
