President Putin fires the Prime Minister and appoints Viktor Zubkov

President Vladimir Putin of Russia dissolved the government Wednesday by firing Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov and dissolving his cabinet.

Putin puts in his place Viktor Zubkov, Putin's cabinet official that heads the Federal Financial Monitoring Service which deals with money laundering.

Some expect that Zubkov will take over as President after Putin steps down after the March elections.

However, others believe that Putin favors other candidates to replace him.
