It is suspected that the crash was due to mechanical problems and not from enemy interference, but authorities are still investigating.

The UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter was on a nighttime operation with another helicopter when the crash occurred. All fourteen of the soldiers were part of Task Force Lightning.

The military has not yet released the names of any of the soldiers and will not do so until all their families are notified.
