August 3rd, 2007
A new peice of art by Vincent Van Gogh, named 'Wild Vegitation' was discovered in an X-ray of 'The Ravine', which Van Gogh painted on the same canvas four months later. 'Wild Vegitation' was drawn in June 1889 in brown reed pen. Van Gogh did not did not sell many paintings or become famous until after his death. He would reuse canvases and other tools since he at times did not have the money for new ones.
The new drawing will display in Amsterdam until October 7th as part of a Van Gogh show.
In other Van Gogh news, a team from the Van Gogh Museum found that the 'Head of Man' painting, attributed to Van Gogh for the last seventy years, is actually not by the artist. The painting has been in the Australian National Gallery for the last sixty years. The team believes from the style of the painting that it was done by a contemporary artist.
The painting, when thought to be done by Van Gogh, was valued at around 21 million. |
